Korean Street Food
In Korea, there are many street foods such as fish cake skewers, chicken skewers, and tteokbokki. For Koreans, street food is a quick way to satisfy hunger on busy days, as well as the pleasure of standing and chatting with friends while eating.

Among them, hotteok is a food that warms Koreans’ hearts, especially in the cold winter. It’s a treat they enjoy while blowing on it to cool down, which helps to warm both body and soul.
Types of Hotteok
There are many variations of hotteok, each with its own unique twist.
Honey Hotteok: The most basic hotteok, filled with brown sugar and cinnamon for a classic sweet taste.
Seed hotteok: A variation of the basic hotteok, with seeds added for a delicious crunch and texture.
Chocolate Hotteok: Filled with chocolate cream or Nutella, making it a favorite among children.
Cheese Hotteok: Stuffed with mozzarella cheese for a stretchy, trendy version of the traditional hotteok.
Origianl Hotteok?
This Hotteok recipe is an original version. It was created to recreate the exact taste I remember eating in Korea. I made two flavors: classic brown sugar jam and Nutella jam. They’re chewy and absolutely delicious, so you have to try them!

The Easiest Recipe For People Living Abroad
I miss Korean street food a lot while living in Belgium, but unfortunately it’s hard to find frozen corn dogs or Hotteok mix here. Making the dough from scratch feels too time-consuming and complicated, so I’ve been experimenting with ways to recreate those flavors more easily at home.
Enjoying these nostalgic Korean snacks brings back memories of Korea, not just the taste but also the people I shared them with and the emotions I felt at the time.
Now that itโs getting colder in Belgium, it reminds me of eating Hotteok on chilly days in Korea, blowing on them to cool them down before each bite. Today, with this Korean recipe, I made a simple version of Hotteok using tortillas. Instead of frying, I grilled them, making it a lighter and healthier version. The chewy, cinnamon-scented filling is just perfect for a cozy winter snack.

The brown sugar and cinnamon combo with mozzarella and honey made for a comforting, sweet treat. I also appreciated that itโs grilled instead of fried, so it feels a little lighter.
